A challenging and exciting service job with a fast turnaround time
Ameland Shipping/ Skylge Shipping is a shipping company that runs and manages two modern Multi-Purpose ships: M/V Ameland and M/V Skylge. Both ships are equipped with two MAN D2840LE301 auxiliary engines. Daily maintenance is performed by the ships’ crews, while MAN Rollo performs the major maintenance. The two MAN D2840LE301 engines on the M/V Skylge have now been running for 12,500 hours so it is time for a top-end overhaul.
In this case, a top-end overhaul involves the cylinder heads and turbos. The work is done using reconditioned exchange parts. For example, the cylinder heads of auxiliary engine #1 are overhauled and made ready for the work on auxiliary engine #2, etc., etc. The work is done on location by MAN Rollo’s service mechanic. The ship is kept in Rotterdam port for just two days. The MAN Rollo service mechanic is assisted by the ship’s crew, and that makes it possible to fully implement the top-end overhaul in the short time available. As soon as the engine has been fully reassembled, it is started up and put through a trial run using the load on board the ship. Once these tests have been completed successfully, the project is officially transferred and the service report is drawn up.
All in all, a challenging and exciting service job with a fast turnaround time of approximately two days thanks to the assistance of the crew on board.
